The first thing I had to do on my post today was to go back and change the date on yesterday’s post. It’s true. I never know what day it is.
Yesterday I did some wool washing and put things out to dry in the sun.

I first put them to soak in hot water and detergent. They got heavy and even bigger and sloppier. I worked on them in the water for a while, then got our my fels naphtha bar soap and felting board. This particular wool does not felt easily, so I vigorously rubbed for quite a long time, trying them on from time to time. Eventually they came together. I’m happy with them.
My experiment with knitting roving was a success!

Hot water and soap for the mohair socks, then rinsed well. I thwacked them a number of times on the porch rail to raise a nice halo. They fit perfectly. Now let’s see how they wear. Durability was the goal with this project.

I washed up this hat.

And this hat. Done and done.
Since I was washing whites, I also washed up this skein of lovely creamy white wool singles. I have no idea exactly what fiber it is because I spun it up a while ago, and, of course, I didn’t label it. Reminder: always label everything even if you think you’ll remember. I’ll probably use it in weaving for weft.

Now to my next projects: I found a small basket of unfinished baby booties (3 or 4 pair) and one green child’s sock (no directions) and two pair of child’s argyle socks. The argyle socks project I actually inherited from a friend’s grandmother after she died. A legacy project. I have never knit argyle, so I will learn a new technique.

Note: as I’m going through finishing these projects, I am giving myself permission to abandon any that I just don’t want to do. Life is too short, and there is so much that I do want to do. But they just can’t sit around here anymore.
