Today I am taking on a really big, old UFO.

Handspun Setesdal sweater

This is the Setesdal sweater from Nordic Knits by Susan Pagdohl. I started it decades ago. Even though I know it is huge, the gauge is variable, and it has a sun bleached streak down the middle of it, I really want/need to finish this one. It is all handspun and there is also a helluva lot of knitting in it.

I know why I stopped working on this one. It’s because of the steeks. This sweater was knit as a tube, and the armholes need to be cut into it. The directions to do this are rather skimpy, so I know I was unsure what to do. I think I can handle it now since I recently finished a sweater with a steek, so here goes.

Steeks marked

Today I have marked the steeks for machine sewing and cutting. Then I was sew together the shoulders.

On the spinning front, I have been spinning up four ounces of yak down using my Marie wheel and the Scotch tension for a light touch. I had started spinning this on a spindle, but the fibers are so short, and the spindle was too heavy, so I switched over to the wheel.
