A month it has been. Time flies in a pandemic when every day feels the same.

I have been spinning, a lot. I am almost finished with the fleece of VaVaVoom from 2012. I am currently spinning the last two skeins from that fleece, dyed with coreopsis and overdyed with onion skins. That will make 11 skeins spun, about 4000 yards. The last Orvus washed batch turned out to have cotted just enough at the cut ends so that it was necessary to flick each of the locks before I could handcard it, but it was lovely to spin, and has made a beautiful woolen yarn.

I also washed up and finished several random skeins previously spun.

One of the VaVaVoom skeins I speckle dyed with Jacquard acid dyed. I love how it turned out.

I had to knit it up right away to see what it would look like, so I made this hat. The yarn felt luscious to work with and was a delight with all the colors.

The only real UFO that I finished this month was my red striped tank top. I had to figure out how to make short row shaping for the bust darts which I finally did after a period of procrastination.

Short rows added for bust shaping

After that it was just shaping the armholes and V neck which was easy. I had to use a smoother yarn for sewing up because the boucle would not pull through. The only other finishing I did was a single crochet around the neckline. It fits quite well.

I also speckle dyed 8 ounces of Wobyn 2019. So lovely.

I can’t wait to spin this up. Also did a black walnut dyepot with some of Wobyn, but I’m about to call that a total failure. Should have carefully strained the dye liquid.

I really have to tackle the steeks…

  1. Ginnie, I love the speckle dyed VaVaVoom hat. What fun. I look forward to seeing the speckle dyed Wobyn once you have it spun. Be well.
