I decided to empty my looms because I haven’t woven much in almost a year. My Macomber has a sample warp on it for me to play around with weaving thrums. That was fun, and I wove several inches of a bunch of different patterns, but it is slow, and I tired of it. So it sat. Last week I sat down and wove it off.

Just as the knots were coming over the back beam as I adjusted the warp tension, I hear this pop! Pop! Ping! From the back of the loom.

Broken apron strings

My linen apron cords all rotted at the same time, probably original 1956 vintage so not surprising. Had to research waxed linen cording and found some on Etsy. It arrived yesterday, so I can fix those soon.

I had handspun scarves on the table loom. The yarn was spongy so I had to carefully place each pick. Not the way I love to weave. But I finished them up and washed them, and now that loom is empty, too.

Handspun, handdyed, handwoven

Next I decided to tackle a scarf kit that I got years ago from Cotton Clouds designed by my dear friend Daryl Lancaster. It was a somewhat challenging 8 harness weave combining plain weave, twill, and supplementary warp and five yarns in the warp, but it gave me a chance to review what I learned from Daryl in weaving class at Peters Valley last summer. It turned out great!

This is getting long. I’ll save shibori for next time.
